Just a few weeks ago we hosted an evening of cheese and beer tasting in our Bath shop. We joined forces with Trethowan’s Dairy (the people behind our ‘Diary of a Cheesemaker’ column) who provided the cheese, their long-time friends Bristol Beer Factory, who supplied the beer, and thirty loyal Toast customers, who came from Bath and around to act as tasters and indulge themselves a little.
We set out long tables (laid with Toast tableware, as you would expect!) down the middle of the shop and there we ate Dorstone, Keen’s and, of course, Gorwydd Caerphilly, all the while listening attentively to Ben Ticehurst’s tasting notes. All were delicious, but the general consensus deemed Stichelton the favourite, in large part due to it’s pairing with Milk Stout, a sweet, black, full-bodied and very delicious beer!
For those that would have loved to come, do let us know – there are plans afoot to hold similar evenings in other shops, but it’s always useful to gauge interest and help us decide where to go next!

Beautiful! I just wish I was there for this! Hopefully there will be some cheese and beer tasting in your London shops over the summer, as I’ll be there for two months. If so, count me in!!
would love to do something in London or further east!
What a great way to surprise and treat your customers! You should definitely bring some of that that cheese and beer over to the London stores.
Would have loved to have known of this event in advance as I live ten miles outside Bath. Do let me have details in advance of future events.
How about ‘The Cheese Place’ in Haworth, West Yorkshire – home of the Brontes and the best cheeses this side of the Pennines!
Live in Bridgend CF31. Don’t get to Bath / Llandeilo too often ! when are you opening in Cardiff ????
Hello, so sorry that you didn’t hear about this… We did email our Bath retail customers, but if you haven’t signed up to our mailing list in the shop then you won’t have received the email – we’re still working on integrating our mail order and retail lists… We’ve now put you on the Bath list manually, so any new Bath events you’ll be sure to hear about. Hope to see you at one of them soon!
Llandeilo would have been fab as I often pop home to Wales. However, living in Aberdeen I am rather far away from any TOAST shop
I heard a rumour that one was going to be opening in Edinburgh but not sure what happened there – are those plans still afoot? Would be fab if you had one in Scotland, and ideally not in the big cities but somewhere beautiful and remote-esque, a bit like the whole TOAST concept! How about I open one for you?!?!? cheers
This looked a fantastic night. Shame I missed it! Next time hopefully!!!
Would definitely look forward to a similar event in London !
You should come to the cheese and beer tasting night in our Notting Hill shop on 27th October (details at the bottom of Jess’ Diary entry above)!
Sounds delicious – definate vote in favour of something similar in Llandeilo. Maybe an Easter event with local chocolate?
I am very intrerested to see this – my wife pointed it out to me!
The Institute of Brewing & Distilling runs a subsidiary organisation called the Beer Academy and we offer a range of bespoke Beer tasting events at venues all around the UK

We held a Beer & Cheese Festival in London just a few months back and saw over 200 people during the day!
This looks so lovely – I would love to come to one of these evenings in London.
Mmm yes please! And perhaps some rhubarb chutney with the cheese? I’d love to come to something like this in the Harrogate branch.
would love to stock toast in our .. Inis shops in the Scottish Borders, we have one in Galashiels, one in Peebles and one in Hawick, all in beautiful hill country…..would this be possible, or perhaps you’re opening in Edinburgh?
Hello Eileen, we have no plans to extend our wholesale partners at the moment I’m afraid, however if our plans change we will be in touch. Thank you anyway for your interest! Yours, Toast.
